Consolation by Popsicle

Fair and foulweather friends,

I hope you basked in the particularly warming warmth of a campfire this summer.

Did you eat something juicy and let it sticky-drip on your chin?

We had some campfires. We slurped some fruits. We were visited bi-monthly by the overly generous trio of fairies Snot, Cough and Phlegm. We were also visited by a man running the entire Oregon coast. Yes! On his legs! We dug drainage trenches that small children tripped and fell into. Subjected those same creatures to child labor against towering walls of thorny vines, but consoled them with blackberry popsicles made from the bounty. And sometimes I even painted.

The newest tidal change is that I have joined a small artists’ collective here in Nye Beach. There are 10 members who co-own the gallery, and they are a family of odd ducks who have welcomed me with open wings. I will hang my original paintings there until Mister 3-yr-old Cosimo can get his poops in a pot and go to preschool, upon which development I shall resume posting work on my website as well. There are a handful of compasses, more to come. For Artsake Gallery (which does ship) can be followed on Facebook or Instagram.

The 2023 calendar is fishing its chips and clamming its chowder, and is soon off to the printers. The 2021 calendar was a self-captained experiment to see if she’d float, and she floated so well that this time she’s going to a local print shop! A tiny bit bigger, a lil more polished, but the same improbably colorful paintings accompanied by gratuitous rambling.

Salty hugs to all, Khara

In the spirit of a fellow artist whose newsletter I read, allow me to part with links to some favorite things:

An artist I’m cuckoo over. A recipe I’ve made all summer (I’m not a recipe person, so this is saying a lot). A natural remedy I’ve started taking, besides milk thistle, for my liver (which is improving!). Most folks I know are on some kind of uphill health battle, and one never knows what twist or turn is going to help. Oof. Lastly, those blackberry popsicles? Blend up some pickings with a lil maple syrup and cream/yogurt. We poured ours into silicone muffin liners and stuck a stick in em. Smash hit around here.
